The Wall Street Journal: WikiLeaks 2.0?

Journalism or not? Ethical or unethical? WikiLeaks, the infamous internet-based organization that releases sensitive and often-classified material that is leaked to it, is perhaps one of the most controversial organizations in the world today.

But despite the controversy surrounding WikiLeaks, it appears that at least one major newspaper is envious enough of what it’s doing to start its own online service designed to allow ‘whistleblowers‘ to share their wares.

That newspaper is the Wall Street Journal, which released SafeHouse to the world yesterday.

SpeedFunding Statistics: Singapore 4th May

To help reflect what you can expect from our regional SpeedFunding sessions, here are some statistics from the funding event held in Singapore held on 4th May:

We had 13 Angel investors attend and generated on average 3.5 follow-up requests per entrepreneur pitching – which is about what we normally expect our entrepreneurs to receive.

One of the entrepreneuers seeking funding had six Angels Interested.

In terms of feedback, one of the seasoned Angels commented “Very very good sessions today.

Social Media B2B Methods for Small Business

There is plenty of talk, chatter, and online articles about how you can use social media to your marketing advantage with customers. However, it seems most of these articles and resources are aimed at how a small business owner can utilize social media to promote their business with the final consumer. But what about those small businesses who sells products or services business to business (B2B)? Can social media work for them too?

The answer is yes! In fact, methods for using social media for B2B companies are not that much different than for retailers. However, the approach for B2B companies is a little different.

How does a small business owner change focus to promote their company to other trade and retail industry clients?

Define Your Customer

As with any successful marketing effort, your first step should always be to determine who your target customer is. After all, B2B companies are not aimed at end-consumers, but rather other businesses who will resell your product, your use your products in the manufacture or assembly of something else.

Africa to weigh on Bharti Airtel’s earnings near term

The loss-making African operation of Bharti Airtel is expected to dent near-term earnings of India’s biggest mobile operator, which posted a bigger-than-expected 31,5% net profit drop in the March quarter.

Bharti’s prospects in its main market in India, the world’s second-biggest and fastest-growing by mobile customers, have improved after call prices steadied last year following a vicious price war that led to sharp drops.

Companies including Bharti have recently started rolling out third-generation (3G) networks and are eyeing a pickup in premium data services to boost margins after they spent a total of $15-billion at auctions last year to buy costly radio spectrum.

But Africa continues to weigh on Bharti’s earnings. Read more…

Getting a great deal on a public liability insurance policy

No one wants to pay over the odds for their public liability insurance, but I think that most would agree that it is one of the most essential things when it comes to operating your own business. No matter what it is you do, if you come into contact with the general public in any way whatsoever you are going to want to be covered. When you consider what a legal action happy country Britain has become, you will be more than aware of how easy it would be for someone to take you to court and put you out of business. Most public liability policies don’t cost the earth either, so as a safeguard to your business it should be the first thing you do.

If this is something that you need to action, then you should go online to see what sort of deal you can get. The sort of work you do will to some degree dictate the cost, but it shouldn’t put you too far into the red unless your business is particularly dangerous to the general public or your clients.
